Apple TV becomes the new pit stop for Formula 1 fans with a $700M media rights deal
Apple has officially entered the fast lane of live sports streaming with a landmark $700 million media rights deal to stream Formula 1 races exclusively on Apple TV starting in 2026. The five-year agreement marks Apple’s most ambitious move yet in the sports broadcasting space, positioning it as a major player in global motorsports coverage.
Under the deal, Apple TV will stream every F1 Grand Prix, including practice sessions, qualifying rounds, and Sprint races. Subscribers can access the full experience ad-free for $12.99 per month, while select races and practice sessions will be available for free within the Apple TV app. This strategic pricing aims to attract both hardcore fans and casual viewers.
The agreement also bundles F1 TV Premium into Apple’s subscription ecosystem, replacing ESPN as the U.S. broadcaster. ESPN had previously paid around $85 million annually for F1 rights, making Apple’s offer a significant upgrade in both value and reach.
Apple’s Senior VP of Services Eddy Cue emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation in sports media: “If we can do something unique, then we’ll do it.” The deal builds on Apple’s growing relationship with Formula 1, following its production of F1: The Movie starring Brad Pitt.
Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali praised the partnership, calling it a major step toward expanding F1’s digital footprint and engaging younger audiences in the U.S. and globally.
With this move, Apple joins other tech giants in reshaping how fans consume live sports. The deal not only enhances Apple TV’s content portfolio but also signals a new era for Formula 1 streaming, blending cutting-edge technology with high-speed entertainment.
